Deep Rooted Issues

Deep Rooted Issues

If your property is lined with tall trees that add character to your home and provide shade, it’s more than likely that the roots can cause havoc on your plumbing system if not maintained properly overtime.

Take note of the following signs as it’s more than likely you have a blocked drainpipes caused by tree roots:

  • Sinks and Shower drains are slow when emptying
  • Your drains are making a gurgling noise
  • Your toilet regularly backs up
  • An unpleasant odour coming from your drains
  • You notice a drop in your water pressure
  • A particular tree/trees are growing rapidly and there are patches of green grass unexpectedly
  • There are soft spots in your yard
  • Your water bill has increased

As expected, it’s not an easy or cheap fix but there are ways to try preventing this from happening:

  1. Install Root Barriers – These can be planted around a tree to prevent its roots from growing far and wide and infiltrating your pipelines.
  2. Routine Maintenance – Keeping your drainpipes clean by carrying out regular maintenance can help; however, you will need to contact a professional plumber with the right tools to inspect and carry out this task.
  3. Clean Sewer Lines- Hydro-Jetting aka power washing for your plumbing system is an effective way to clear any potential tree root systems that may have started growing and/or any other potential clogs.
  4. Think before you plant- While the avid garden guru aims to have as much greenery as possible and an aesthetically pleasing yard, it might be wise to discuss your plant choices with a landscaper before progressing to avoid potential deep-rooted issues in your drainpipes.

If you find yourself with any of the potential signs that indicate tree roots in your plumber pipes, we advise getting in contact with a professional plumber to remove them and get this flowing again.
